Synopsis:

After CAMILLE POWERS suffers a seemingly harmless fall, her mundane life changes in ways she couldn’t have imagined. Able to still see and hear everything through a thin, muted haze, she can’t interact with anyone or anything. To make matters worse, she can see a woman who looks and sounds just like herself. Unable to bear watching the new Camille with her husband, she flees the house and seeks out the only person who can help her, ANNA GRACE, the spirit of a ten-year-old girl Camille has seen many times around her ancestral home.

Trapped in this strange place more than fifty years earlier, Anna Grace knows exactly what happened to Camille. She has been dragged from her body into a parallel world called the Peripheral by a demon who has been watching her for years, waiting on the perfect moment to strike. The demon, called a “Looker” by Anna Grace, now occupies Camille’s body, and wants to indulge in everything her world has to offer—alcohol, fine food, and bodily pleasures—which it can’t do in its normal form. Now intends to consume them all to excess.

While Camille and Anna Grace try to formulate a plan to defeat the centuries-old demon, Camille learns the sad story of her companion. Dragged over as a young girl, Anna Grace has existed in an eternal moment. With no need for food, water, or sleep, she wandered the Peripheral alone. Faced with the same prospect, Camille becomes more determined to formulate a plan that will bring her and Anna Grace home.

Camille’s husband, Bo, oblivious to what has happened, likes his wife's new, aggressive attitude. At first.  But things quickly turn when Camille becomes too aggressive and begins drinking heavily. Coupled with his wife’s sudden change in personality, when Bo begins to see strange lights in his barn, he knows he must act. Though a skeptic, he calls a paranormal investigator to find out what has happened.

While navigating the strange new world she has found herself in, trying to learn how to make contact with Bo, and keeping tabs on the Looker who has her body, Camille and Anna Grace have several close calls with the demon. After narrowly escaping being caught by the demon, Anna Grace takes Camille to watch a Looker while they consume its prey, driving home the horror that awaits them if they are caught.

Though shaken and afraid, Camille refuses to give up. When the demon violently attacks her husband, leaving him battered and bruised, Camille is forced to agree to Anna Grace’s plan. They will use Camille’s allergy to bee stings to set off an anaphylactic reaction, driving the Looker from her body and allowing Camille to slip back in. Through trial and error, they are able to make contact with Bo, bringing him up to speed with the plan. If Anna Grace isn’t able to administer the lifesaving medi-pen shot at precisely the right time, the job will fall to him.

When the investigator bails, Bo finds himself alone, waiting for Camille and Anna Grace to execute the dangerous plan while he appeases the demon in any way he can. Enduring the hellish mental and physical abuse, he struggles with the idea of watching the woman he loves become such a monster.

When Bo hears a shriek from the bedroom, he knows that the plan has begun. He rushes upstairs to find his wife’s body going into anaphylactic shock, but the demon still has enough control to be dangerous. Precious seconds tick past as the demon fights the effect of the scorpion sting while tossing him violently around the room. Losing strength and barely able to pass over from the Peripheral, Anna Grace drops the auto-injector and breaks it. When the Looker refuses to leave despite the fact that Camille’s body is shutting down, Camille knows that the end is close. She embraces Bo while he cries over her convulsing body. When Bo tries to retrieve one of the auto-injector pens he has hidden, she tells Anna Grace to stop him. She knows that the Looker will never surrender her body until it is dead. Anna Grace trips Bo as he starts down the stairs, but he tumbles and suffers a major head injury.

As Camille’s body drifts to the edge of death, the Looker leaves her. Now unrestrained by a physical form, the powerful demon is insane with fury and hell-bent on revenge.

Having a change of heart, the investigator returns to the house only to find a trail of blood leading up the stairs. Following the blood, he finds Camille unconscious on the floor of the master bedroom, Bo collapsed beside her, bleeding profusely, and a massive demon walking on all fours, bending the fabric of time and space with each movement.

The demon turns on the investigator and is on the verge of devouring him when Anna Grace comes forward to confront it one on one. By using her energy to inject shards of bright white light into it, she wounds the Looker, but only slightly. Enraged by the challenge, the Looker leaves Camille, Bo, and the investigator to pursue her as she flees.

Months later, Bo stands in his front yard, saddened by the For Sale sign. When Camille joins him, they watch a real estate agent arrive at the house to show it to potential buyers. Unwilling to watch their dream home go to the highest bidder, they leave, walking across the field next to the house.

All is well until the potential buyer runs from the house, claiming to have seen a ghost.

Bo and Camille laugh, knowing it is Anna Grace. They discuss how Camille’s body died, trapping her in the Peripheral forever, and that Bo’s injuries left him in a vegetative state. However, Camille and Anna Grace managed to pull Bo from his body before it died. Now all three are trapped in the Peripheral forever, but they will always be together.
